Ted E. Ssempebwa

Ted E. Ssempebwa is a Partner at KATS and a Barrister qualified in the United Kingdom, having completed his formal legal training exclusively in the UK. He brings a unique and extensive knowledge of modern developments in the law and its practice in the UK, upon which the legal system in Uganda is based.

He has practiced law for 25 years and is one of the leading authorities in Energy, Oil & Gas Law in Uganda. He is currently involved in multi-disciplinary and international financial transactions and has extensive experience serving international clients.

His practice also encompasses civil litigation involving debt collection, employment law, tax and compliance, real property, and contractual breach, among others. He has secured many critical awards for clients, particularly in class action suits, including the largest class action award in Uganda's history on behalf of war veterans from World War II. He also handles criminal litigation matters, most significantly handling mitigation hearings on behalf of several death row inmates affected by the ruling in Susan Kigula & 416 Ors v Attorney General (Constitutional Petition No. 6 of 2003).

He holds an LL.B (Hons) (1998) and an LL.M with Distinction (1999) from the University of Wolverhampton. He is admitted to practice as an Advocate of the Republic of Uganda and as a Barrister-at-Law from the Middle Temple in the United Kingdom.
