Brian Kajubi

Brian Kajubi is a Legal Associate in the Intellectual Property and Litigation Teams at ALN Uganda | MMAKS Advocates, specialising in Intellectual Property Law. He is a licensed Trademarks Agent with the Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) and ARIPO, with expertise in trademark prosecution, oppositions, cancellations, copyright disputes, patent filings, and enforcement of intellectual property rights across Africa and internationally.

He has acted for NBA Properties Inc. in successfully opposing the registration of a confusingly similar “BAL” trademark, represented Kentucky Fried Chicken International Holdings LLC (KFC) in trademark infringement proceedings against a local enterprise, and acted for The Coca‑Cola Company in an ongoing opposition regarding its “CAPPY” trademark. He has also acted for Comité International Olympique (Lausanne, Switzerland), Caterpillar Inc., and Price Costco International, Inc. (Costco Wholesale Corporation) in trademark opposition and infringement matters, and for Patagonia Inc. on the objection to the registration of “Patagonia” as a state emblem under WIPO. He has advised Twenty‑three commercial banks in a suit challenging bank charges, represented Victoria Hospital Limited in setting aside a USD 5.5 million mortgage transaction, and successfully represented Spark Television against a claim for breach of broadcasting standards.

Brian holds an LL.B (Hons) from Uganda Christian University, Mukono and a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre, Uganda. He is the Vice Chairperson of the Uganda Law Society Intellectual Property Cluster, a member of the Legal Committee of the Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA), and a member of the African Trademark Network. He has taught law at Uganda Christian University and Makerere University Business School, and serves as an external examiner at the Law Development Centre (Bar Course). He has also drafted the Intellectual Property Management Policy for Uganda Christian University.
