Peninah Nakatudde

Peninah Nakatudde is a Senior Associate at KATS, focusing on Intellectual Property Law. She has over 10 years’ experience in the legal arena.

She previously worked as an Associate at a firm in Nairobi, Kenya, from January 2013 to May 2014. Penny joined KATS in July 2014 and works in the Intellectual Property, Family Law and Estates, and Company Secretarial departments.

Her IP work encompasses registration of trademarks, industrial designs, patents and utility models for both local and international clients, representing clients in matters of trademark and copyright infringement, advising on licensing of marks, copyrights and patents, and conducting IP due diligence.

She also handles legal issues related to data privacy, security and integrity for clients in industries such as software, telecommunications and e-commerce, and assists clients in family law matters including adoption, guardianship, and obtaining Grants of Letters of Administration and Probate.

Her sample transactions include acting for International Medical Group (C-Care), a leading provider of private medical services in Uganda, to register approximately 30 trademarks for the company and all its subsidiaries in Uganda; acting for Chemi and Cotex Industries Limited, a leading oral care company in Tanzania, in defending a trademark opposition suit in Uganda; and undertaking trademark registration and renewal of 20 trademarks for Afrisam (South Africa) Pty Limited, a large building material company.

She has also filed various trademark registration applications for House of Eden Uganda Limited and maintains its trademark, and has been involved in conducting due diligence for multinational companies with regard to their intellectual property and regulations. She holds an LLB with Honours from Makerere University (2011) and a Diploma in Legal Practice from the Kenya School of Law (2013).
