Lilian Mavis Tumwizere

Lilian Mavis Tumwizere is an Associate and registered Trademarks Agent with the Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB), specialising in Intellectual Property Law. She advises clients on the creation, registration, maintenance, protection, commercialisation, and enforcement of various intellectual property rights in Uganda, with a focus on trademark prosecution, opposition, cancellation proceedings, and anti‑counterfeiting measures.

She has acted for Diageo Inc. on its Ugandan IP portfolio, Meta Platforms Inc. on overcoming the refusal of the “META” trademark (successfully argued against an existing Apple Inc. mark), and The Coca‑Cola Company on the registration of its “Real Magic” trademark. She also acted for Hayat Kimya Sanayi A.S. in pursuing the trademark abandonment of “MOLPED,” successfully removing the mark from the Register and subsequently registering it for the rightful proprietor. She has acted for Bidco Uganda Limited against opposition to its “Blue Magic” trademark, for Sustainable Agro Solutions S.A. against opposition by YARA International, and for a leading roofing company in defending its trademark from cancellation. She also sits on the board of Imana Yera Company Limited as Company Secretary and has experience in corporate commercial matters, corporate governance, and employment law.

Lilian holds an LL.B (Hons) from Uganda Christian University, Mukono and a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre, Kampala. She is an Advocate of the High Court of Uganda and a member of the Uganda Law Society (including its IP Cluster and Young Lawyers Committee), the East African Law Society, and the URSB IP Directorate Users' Forum. She is also a participant in the Project Girls For Girls (G4G) mentorship initiative.
