Fred Ssenyonga

Fred Ssenyonga is a Partner and heads the Banking and Finance team at MMAKS Advocates, specialising in Banking and Finance Law. He has over 10 years of combined experience in banking and finance practice, gained through engagements with three commercial banks in Uganda. He has advised on and participated in the structuring, negotiation, and documentation of syndicated facilities, trade finance deals, receivables financing, and commodity financing transactions, often involving review of complex financing documents, securitisation instruments, and legal opinions from different jurisdictions.

He has advised the Purchaser in a receivables financing transaction valued at USD 12 million for the supply of technology equipment to a telecommunications company, participated in the preparation and review of facility documents for a USD 100 million syndicated facility transition from LIBOR to other risk‑free rates, and advised the lender on facility and security documents for a USD 10 million commodity financing transaction involving multiple jurisdictions. He has also advised on a USD 20 million restructuring of a structured commodity financing transaction, and on a USD 20 million facility for the construction of a major shopping mall in Kampala. He also has knowledge in the management of delinquent facilities, loan recovery, and collateral realisation derived from his past experience in Litigation and Recovery Management with a commercial bank.

Fred holds an LL.B (Hons) from Makerere University and a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre, Uganda. He is a member of the Uganda Law Society and the East African Law Society.
