Laura Taaka

Laura Taaka is a Legal Associate in the Banking and Finance team, specialising in Banking and Finance Law, with a focus on corporate finance, securities, property conveyancing, and regulatory compliance. She advises domestic and international clients on financing transactions, security perfection, and corporate and commercial law across a range of sectors.

She has advised British International Investment on a financing to a Nigerian entity and its subsidiaries operating in Uganda, involving review of English law governed facility agreements and the preparation of security documents. She has also advised Crowd Credit Inc. on a financing transaction to a micro‑lending entity in Uganda, and Sailing International Leasing Limited on the validity and enforceability of a proposed receivables purchase agreement. She has advised international lenders including Oiko Credit and Mirova SunFunder on their rights against Ugandan borrowers in default, and has advised on the national payments regulatory framework in Uganda for an international payment service provider. She also regularly drafts and reviews transaction documents including facility agreements, intercreditor agreements, guarantees, and security documents for several commercial banks in Uganda.

Laura holds an LL.B (Hons) from Makerere University and a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre, Uganda. She is a member of the Uganda Law Society.
