Racheal Kugonza

Racheal Kugonza is a Legal Associate in the Property, Banking and Finance Team at MMAKS Advocates, specialising in Banking and Finance Law. She advises local and international lenders, borrowers, funds, and DFIs on financing and project development transactions, and also advises clients on general commercial law matters in Uganda.

She has acted as lender's counsel on a refinancing of a major solar company in Uganda with subsidiaries in various jurisdictions in a syndicated loan financing of over EUR 25,000,000, on a financing to a micro‑lending entity of over USD 7,500,000, and on a Ugandan company financing of over UGX 30,000,000,000. She has also assisted on the acquisition of a financial institution in Uganda and on an acquisition for one of the largest steel producers in East Africa, conducting detailed due diligence. She is also involved in a USD 3,000,000 financing to a micro‑lending entity, liaising with Mauritian counsel on a corporate guarantee. She regularly prepares, drafts, and registers securities for top commercial banks in Uganda and Kenya.

Racheal holds an LL.B (Hons) from Makerere University, Kampala and a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre, Uganda. She is an Advocate of the High Court of Uganda and a member of the Uganda Law Society and the East African Law Society.
