Elison Karuhanga

Elison Karuhanga is a Partner at Kampala Associated Advocates (KAA), specialising in Oil and Gas Law. He advises clients on upstream oil and gas operations, energy transactions, banking and finance, and commercial litigation. He holds an LL.M in Oil and Gas Law from the University of Aberdeen and has been actively involved in Uganda's oil and gas sector, including advising upstream companies on production sharing agreements and exploration licensing.

He has represented clients in significant disputes, including Uganda's largest mining dispute valued at USD 700 million, and was part of the legal team in the landmark Presidential Election Petition before the Supreme Court of Uganda. He is also part of the team defending a client in Uganda's largest banking and finance litigation worth USD 120 million. As a State Attorney at the Directorate of Civil Litigation, he handled major commercial disputes, including recovering USD 70 million for the Government of Uganda. He has contributed to publications on oil and gas law, including articles for the Oxford Energy Journal and contributions to "Upstream Law and Regulation: A Global Guide". He is a member of the Uganda Chamber of Mines and Petroleum, the Uganda Law Society, and the East African Law Society.

Elison holds an LL.M in Oil and Gas Law from the University of Aberdeen, a Post Graduate Diploma in Law from the Law Development Centre, and an LL.B from the University of Kent. He is a member of the Uganda Law Society, the East African Law Society, and the Uganda Chamber of Mines and Petroleum.
