Edgar E. Mugarura

Edgar E. Mugarura is a Legal Associate in the Corporate Advisory and Tax teams at ALN Uganda | MMAKS Advocates, specialising in tax advisory law and corporate and commercial transactions. He advises clients across various sectors including insurance, private equity, banking and finance, manufacturing, transport and logistics, and real estate on taxation, regulation, corporate restructurings, capital markets, and regulatory compliance.

He has advised Greenwheels Electric Mobility Solutions Limited and Arcride on the tax and commercial structuring of their electric mobility operations, Tetra Pak on its proposed expansion into Uganda, Louis Dreyfus Company on tax and commercial matters relating to its Ugandan operations, and Sun King on stamp duty matters arising from its Ugandan operations. He also advised the United Nations Federal Credit Union (UNFCU) on its income tax status and the Digital Economic Group (DEG) on the applicability of Uganda's Digital Services Tax (DST). On the corporate advisory side, he has advised the Office of the Auditor General on the special audit of UMEME Limited, advised the National Planning Authority on feasibility studies for university PPP projects, and advised Mirai General Insurance on the sale of its entire shareholding valued at USD 1,609,359. He has also advised Jumo World Limited Group on its proposed restructuring and Flutterwave Inc on its acquisition of National Payments Systems licences from the Bank of Uganda.

Edgar holds an LL.B (Second Class Upper) from Makerere University and a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre. He is an Advocate of the High Court of Uganda and a member of the Uganda Law Society and the East African Law Society. He is also a candidate for the Diploma in Tax and Revenue Administration from the East African School of Taxation.
