Dennis Otatiina

Dennis Otatiina is a Partner at Dentons in Uganda and leads the Corporate and Commercial practice group, specialising in mergers and acquisitions, private equity, corporate and commercial law, and project finance. He has over 13 years of experience advising clients on financings, M&A, private equity, and capital markets transactions in Uganda and across the East African region.

Dennis has advised on the establishment of the first private equity fund domiciled in Uganda and routinely advises local and international funds on their investments in market‑leading Ugandan businesses. Notable transactions include advising Yield Fund Limited on the setting up of an agriculture‑centred private equity fund valued at EUR 25 million; FCA Investments OY on the full breadth of investments to SMEs; Yamaha Motor Co., Limited on the acquisition of a local auto delivery business and a related multi‑jurisdictional investment; and De Heus Animal Nutrition BV on the set‑up and operationalisation of the first‑of‑its‑kind manufacturing plant in East and Central Africa. He also advises on real estate, intellectual property, trademark, immigration, and insolvency and receivership matters, and has served as a liquidator in voluntary liquidation proceedings.

Dennis holds an LL.B from Makerere University (2009) and a Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre, Kampala (2011). He is a registered insolvency practitioner and a notary public in Uganda.

He has been ranked as 'Highly Regarded' by IFLR 1000 in 2022 and ranked by Chambers & Partners Global 2023. He is a member of the East Africa Law Society, the Uganda Law Society, the International Bar Association, the East Africa Private Equity & Venture Capital Association, and the Association of Registered Insolvency Practitioners.
