Godwin Kakande

Godwin Kakande is a Partner in the Corporate Advisory team at ALN Uganda | MMAKS Advocates, specialising in mergers and acquisitions, corporate and commercial law, projects and infrastructure, and tax. He advises on capital markets, oil and gas, public-private partnerships, telecommunications, data protection, insurance, insolvency, and private equity, as well as income tax, VAT, withholding tax, transfer pricing, and capital allowances.

Godwin has acted for Sanlam Limited on its proposed joint venture with the Allianz group; for Vivo Energy Investments on a 50% acquisition of Kuku Foods; for Qatar Holding LLC on a USD 200 million investment in Airtel Mobile Commerce BV; for PayPal Inc. on its equity investment in Flutterwave Inc.; for Catalyst Principal Partners on the cross-jurisdictional merger and acquisition of Superfoam, Euroflex, and Vitafoam; and for Uganda National Oil Company on the Kampala Storage Terminal Project. He has also successfully represented clients before the Tax Appeals Tribunal in Uganda and Kenya on complex tax disputes.

Godwin holds an LL.M in Corporate Law from Cornell University Law School and an LL.B from the University of Pretoria, as well as a Postgraduate Diploma in Tax and Revenue Administration and a Postgraduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law. He is an Advocate of the High Court of Uganda and Kenya and is admitted to the New York State Bar. He is a member of the Uganda Law Society, Law Society of Kenya, East Africa Law Society, New York Bar Association, and American Bar Association, and is recommended by The Legal 500.
