Joel Roy Mucunguzi

Joel Roy Mucunguzi is an Associate in the Litigation and Arbitration team, specialising in dispute resolution. He advises and represents clients in a broad range of domestic and cross‑border matters, including banking and finance disputes, asset recovery, public procurement, estates and succession, appellate practice, alternative dispute resolution (ADR), and general civil liability.

He has acted for Diamond Trust Bank (U) Ltd and Diamond Trust Bank (K) Limited in a US$ 6.6 million and UGX 9.8 billion debt recovery from a local businessman, for Mehta Electricals Limited in a US$ 1.3 million breach of contract claim against Roko Construction Limited, and for the United Nations Federal Credit Union (UNFCU) in a US$ 1.85 million asset recovery through equitable tracing. He also acted for Sanlam General Insurance Uganda Limited in a UGX 5.7 billion procurement dispute before the PPDA Appeals Tribunal, for Access Financial Services Limited in a class action involving over 71 plaintiffs, and for various banks including Absa, Diamond Trust, Stanbic, and KCB in corporate recovery matters. He has also acted for the SPV in charge of the USD 400 million International Specialized Hospital of Uganda.

He holds an LL.B (Hons) from Makerere University, Uganda, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre, Uganda. He is an Advocate of the High Court of Uganda and a member of the Uganda Law Society and the East African Law Society.
