Apollo N. Makubuya

Apollo Nelson Makubuya is a Partner and head of the firm's Commercial Transactions team, with over 26 years of experience specialising in corporate and commercial transactions, mergers and acquisitions, and energy and mining law. He advises clients on company incorporation, governance, restructuring, and high‑value M&A transactions across the banking, insurance, telecommunications, and oil and gas sectors.

He has handled landmark transactions including the National Oil Refinery, Kampala Storage Terminal, Kilembe Mines, Bujagali Power Station, Kampala Flyover Project, and the Namanve industrial park. He has advised private equity funds on acquisitions of hydro power projects and mining companies, and has acted for Uganda National Oil Company on the Kampala Storage Terminal project, Uganda Investment Authority on industrial park development, and Sanlam Limited on its joint venture with the Allianz group. He also routinely advises on regulatory compliance in the banking, telecommunications, and insurance sectors.

Apollo holds an LL.M from Cambridge University, UK, a First Class Honours LL.B from Makerere University, and a Diploma in Legal Practice. He is a member of the Uganda Law Society and is a Senior Advocate qualified to practice in all courts of judicature in Uganda. He serves as Senior Palace Advisor to the Kabaka of Buganda and has held senior roles including Deputy Katikkiro and Attorney General of Buganda. He is a former Chairman of Equity Bank Uganda and current Chair of Prudential Assurance Uganda Ltd.
