Silver Kayondo

Silver Kayondo is a Partner in the TMT & IP practice. His primary practice area is Technology Law.

He is a Ugandan and South African dual-trained Foreign Direct Investment lawyer specialising in facilitating inward-bound investments and commercial relationships across East Africa. He advises governments and sovereigns, corporates, high net-worth individuals, regulators, lenders, digital and virtual entities, funds (both debt and equity), family offices and philanthropists on projects, M&A, joint ventures and partnerships.

He also assists international firms and in-house teams as local counsel on cross-border matters in Uganda and across the East African region through legal opinions, regulatory memos, political risk assessments, dispute resolution, due diligence, securities perfection, restructuring, market entry and expansion opportunities, sustainability strategies, policies and contract reviews.

He has diverse multi-sectoral expertise in technology, media and telecommunications, government relations and lobbying, banking and financial services, transport and aviation, agriculture, e-commerce, logistics, healthcare and emerging industries. His related practice areas include intellectual property law, corporate and financial advisory, and mergers and acquisitions. He has travel and representative experience in Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, DRC, South Sudan, Ghana, South Africa, USA (Washington, D.C.), Germany and both onshore and offshore UAE.

He holds a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) from Uganda Christian University, a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre, and a Master of Laws (with distinction) from the University of Pretoria. He also holds an Advanced Certificate in Insolvency & Restructuring (South Africa) and is a member of the Restructuring & Insolvency Practitioners Association (SARIPA). He has completed the Strategic Issues in Leadership in Telecoms, Broadcasting & Postal Regulation programme at the Public Utility Research Centre (PURC), University of Florida & UCC.
