Lastone Gulume

Lastone Gulume is the Head of ALP Advocates (Uganda), practicing in Tax Law and Dispute Resolution. He has a demonstrable career in litigation and alternative dispute resolution, flourishing as a Tax Attorney with particular expertise in corporate and commercial transactions, cross-border and regional integration, investments, intellectual property, and public interest litigation.

Notable matters include successful representation of an international company to recover UGX 1.5 billion in VAT erroneously paid at importation of exempt imports from the Uganda Revenue Authority, successfully challenging an assessment of penalty/interest on outstanding tax, and assisting in a successful appeal on the classification of an international agricultural company's supplies (zero-rated v. exempt supplies). He also served as lead counsel in setting aside part of an arbitral award of USD 1 million in damages.

Lastone holds a Master of Laws from the University of South Wales, a Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre, and an LLB (Hons) from Uganda Christian University. He is a member of the Uganda Law Society and the East African Law Society, a registered Insolvency Practitioner, and a Commissioner for Oaths.
