John Musiime

John Musiime is a Partner and Head of the Litigation and Dispute Resolution practice group at Dentons in Uganda, specialising in dispute resolution, commercial litigation, and arbitration. With over 15 years of experience, he handles complex commercial disputes, enforcement and collection matters for commercial banks, and strategic judicial review litigation.

John has represented Housing Finance Bank in a suit involving the setting aside of a final arbitral award of over US$2 million and a breach of contract claim worth over UGX 11.9 billion; a leading petroleum downstream player in a judicial review dispute of over US$30 million; a leading civil and building construction company in recovering a decretal sum of US$651,511; and an award-winning software company in a claim of over UGX 8 billion relating to contractual, copyright, and trade secret claims. He also successfully represented the plaintiff in the precedent-setting decision of Barbara Namayega v Etot Denis and others, which clarified the law on advocates' duties to clients and obligations under the Anti-Money Laundering Act. His practice includes "litigation-proofing" commercial transactions, data protection, intellectual property, real estate disputes, and foreign probate matters.

John holds an LL.B (Hons) from Makerere University (2008) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre, Kampala (2009).

He was awarded the "Excellence from the Bar" award by the Uganda Law Society in 2022, and the Dentons litigation team was recognised as "Litigation Team of the Year" at the same awards. He is a member of the East Africa Law Society and the Uganda Law Society.
