Eriya Mikka

Eriya Mikka is an Associate in the Litigation Team, specialising in dispute resolution, with a focus on commercial litigation, debt recovery, and employment law. He is actively involved in courtroom advocacy and provides dispute resolution advice for corporate clients across multiple sectors.

He is currently acting for an international development bank in the recovery of a sum in excess of USD 118 million against a defaulting hotel group, defending the bank against a counterclaim seeking special damages in excess of USD 200 million. He is also acting for a leading manufacturer of consumer goods against a former distributor seeking USD 18 million for alleged unlawful termination of a distribution agreement, and for Symbion Uganda in recovering USD 193,000 for unpaid architectural design fees. He has acted for the Central Bank of Uganda in the Constitutional Court to defend the liquidation process of a defunct commercial bank and has successfully defended the Central Bank in a Judicial Review application involving claims in excess of UGX 1.2 billion. He has also acted for a commercial bank to recover USD 5.5 million from a conglomerate and for Exim Bank (U) Ltd to recover USD 700,000, and has advised on a contractual dispute for the construction of the first cable‑stayed bridge in Uganda valued in the region of USD 100 million. He also handles class actions and labour disputes.

Eriya holds an LL.B (Hons) from Makerere University and a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre, Uganda. He is an Advocate of the High Court of Uganda and a member of the Uganda Law Society and the East African Law Society. He completed the Webber Wentzel Litigation Associate Foundation Programme in Johannesburg and has co‑authored the Law and Practice in Uganda chapter in the Chambers and Partners Litigation Guide 2019.
